Kill Vampire Lincoln Productions' Internet Weblog

Special effects tutorials, production updates, and all around genre (horror, sci-fi, supernatural, action-adventure) independent film destination.

22 Frames That Always ROCK!

I started this project back in April 2008, as a final project for my Time Arts I class.  I “finished” it then, but I was never really happy with it.  After a while, I just didn’t want to work on it – I created it in Apple Motion, which ran reeeeeally reeeeeally slow when all 22 (full res) frames were playing at once.  Anyway, I finally bit the bullet and finished it, mostly so I (and my actors) could finally use it in our reels.

I emailed Joel Johnson, who originally posted the high-res scans of “Wally Wood’s 22 Panels That Always Work,” to let him know how I used the original, and he posted it on his website…and then it went up on Gizmodo and Boing Boing.  A pretty exciting day for Kill Vampire Lincoln Productions!

Anyway, check out Joel’s blog for more information on the original.  It’s a really neat story and a great piece of comics history.

Here’s my video (22 Frames That Always Work):

Vampire Lincoln #1 from C2E2

Since it was mostly spoiled by the group photo, here is our first amazing Vampire Lincoln sketch from C2E2. As you can see, The President is quite adamant about his integrity!

AHHHHH

It is by James Heffron an, obviously, great independent artist and a really fun guy to talk with. The site for his current project is http://www.lawdogcomics.net/ and he also was promoting a comic from several years ago called Territory 51, about aliens in the old west!

C2E2 Quick Wrap Up

We had a great time this past weekend at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo. Our screening was a blast, best Q&A I think we’ve ever had, and we met a ton of great fans, artists, and other creators. Will post more detailed info and pictures later but, for now, I will leave you with a small sample of our sweet free swag!

SWEET

The Transient screens in Chicago, Champaign this weekend!

Heyo! Just thought I would make a “formal” post about the upcoming screenings of THE TRANSIENT. We’re showing at two different events this weekend (April 15-18).

The short will show in Chicago at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) AND in Champaign-Urbana as a part of The New Art Film Festival. The cast and crew will actually be at McCormick Place in Chicago for the C2E2 screening, so, if you happen to be going to the convention, stop by our show at 5:30 on Friday in room E271a. As for the New Art Film Festival, we will be showing on Thursday and Saturday at various times.

More information about C2E2 can be found at http://www.c2e2.com/
and more information about The New Art Film Festival can be found at http://www.thecuart.com/

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

So sportsfans, between our domain name, logo, and The Transient’s nemesis, Vampire Abraham Lincoln, one could safely assume that we have been following the book and now book trailer and NOW movie rumor hub that is Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. We haven’t picked up the book (yet) but were absolutely floored when we caught the book trailer:

Not only is the trailer pretty darn kickass, but the Vampire-hunting Lincoln is none other than our Vampire Lincoln. Or rather the renown Abraham Lincoln interpreter Michael Krebs.

He is the one on the right

He is the one on the right

A note about Mr. Krebs: When we were casting for The Transient I emailed out to a big list of Lincoln interpreters in the greater Midwest (we didn’t have the money for airfare so driving distance was our big limitation). Lets just say I didn’t receive the warmest reception from some of them. BUT lo and behold, after a few days of embarrassing myself or unintentionally insulting tall older gentlemen in Central Illinois, an email arrived from Michael Krebs saying something along the lines of “I think I’m your perfect Lincoln, not only am I amiable towards the idea of having fun with the character but I played Dracula on stage in 1980 and still have two $300 sets of specially molded dental fangs.

Obviously the choice made itself. (image copyright Michael Krebs)

On set he was a fantastic actor to work with and extra amazing for agreeing to come down to Champaign from the suburbs to help with our silly little production. If you, your school, your club, or your municipality is in need of an Abraham Lincoln interpreter for any event, I cannot recommend Mr. Krebs enough.

I believe the author of Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter, Seth Grahame-Smith, will be at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo which is, coincidentally, the host of our Chicago premiere of The Transient. I will let you all know how that goes.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (the book) can be found wherever books are sold
Michael Krebs can be reached through his website www.abrahamlincolnperformance.com
And The Transient(the movie) can be ordered right here through our online store

Great Short Film – Time to Evolve

Directed by Sean Brown, some friends of mine at Southern Illinois University put together this amazing post-apocalyptic comedy epic “Time to Evolve.”

Simply put, the world as we know it is over and humanity’s last best hope for survival is a group of idiots.

This film looks great, and despite being really really stupid people, the characters are incredibly consistent and work. The core group of actors also forms the base of the video sketch comedy group Magic Hugs. Check out their website www.magichugs.com if you have a chance.

Great Short Film – Rare Exports

I couldn’t let holidays pass without posting this gem. I won’t ruin it by giving away the synopsis to “Rare Exports” a Finnish short by Jalmari Helander.

EDITORS NOTE: This film is a little NSFW (not safe for work), or for that matter children, or impressionable people. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

There is a second (more safe for work) short based on the same characters/company/situation that you can watch on YouTube HERE and they actually recently finished production on a feature version based on the shorts. I highly recommend visiting their production page and checking out the trailer at www.rareexportsmovie.com

To give credit where credit is due, check out Rare Export’s official IMDB page.

I’ve been off a few weeks wrapping up my law exams, my apologies, hopefully this makes up for it. Should have more kickin genre shorts to post soon -a few really neat projects that friends are working/have worked on and maybe even something by us!
