Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

So sportsfans, between our domain name, logo, and The Transient’s nemesis, Vampire Abraham Lincoln, one could safely assume that we have been following the book and now book trailer and NOW movie rumor hub that is Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. We haven’t picked up the book (yet) but were absolutely floored when we caught the book trailer:

Not only is the trailer pretty darn kickass, but the Vampire-hunting Lincoln is none other than our Vampire Lincoln. Or rather the renown Abraham Lincoln interpreter Michael Krebs.

He is the one on the right

He is the one on the right

A note about Mr. Krebs: When we were casting for The Transient I emailed out to a big list of Lincoln interpreters in the greater Midwest (we didn’t have the money for airfare so driving distance was our big limitation). Lets just say I didn’t receive the warmest reception from some of them. BUT lo and behold, after a few days of embarrassing myself or unintentionally insulting tall older gentlemen in Central Illinois, an email arrived from Michael Krebs saying something along the lines of “I think I’m your perfect Lincoln, not only am I amiable towards the idea of having fun with the character but I played Dracula on stage in 1980 and still have two $300 sets of specially molded dental fangs.

Obviously the choice made itself. (image copyright Michael Krebs)

On set he was a fantastic actor to work with and extra amazing for agreeing to come down to Champaign from the suburbs to help with our silly little production. If you, your school, your club, or your municipality is in need of an Abraham Lincoln interpreter for any event, I cannot recommend Mr. Krebs enough.

I believe the author of Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter, Seth Grahame-Smith, will be at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo which is, coincidentally, the host of our Chicago premiere of The Transient. I will let you all know how that goes.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (the book) can be found wherever books are sold
Michael Krebs can be reached through his website www.abrahamlincolnperformance.com
And The Transient(the movie) can be ordered right here through our online store

Engagement Video

As of 9ish tonight it will have been a year since this little thing was shot (and I asked Anne to be my wife).

It has gotten a little internet press (most notably featured on some Chilean national news site haha). Since the posting, I’ve talked several people through what my process was, both technically (to fake the film burn despite a digital projection) and logistically (Q: How do you get a movie theater to show your wedding proposal? A: You ask them nicely.)

For the record: no Quantum of Solace didn’t have any special significance (only screen with a DVD player/projector in the theater), and yes we did stay to watch the whole thing haha, I don’t think we paid too terribly much attention to it though. Watchmen trailer was selected because we were both nerding out over it at the time waiting for the release.

Anyhoo, I have some other cool genre shorts lined up for next week (and maybe a sneak preview of a news short actually made by us) so come on back!

Monster (Squad) Mash(up)

Instead of carving a pumpkin this year I put together a video mash-up using some shots of The Mummy Ted Johnson (from The University of Illinois vs a Mummy of course ) and the always-quotable-for-every-occasion scene from The Monster Squad

It’s only 18 seconds, so check it out!

I mean we had the shot of Rudolphe kicking the Mummy “in the balls” anyway, so it would have been harder to not make the edit.

Sloppy masking job aside, I think it turned out pretty well! My endearment to The Monster Squad has only grown over the past few years as I think about the kind of story I’d like to tell in whatever my next major project turns out to be. What is the adult version of ‘the 80’s movie’? Have all the kids who grew up with this (and similar films like Goonies) completely moved on, or is there still that spark of imagination when dealing with the unbelievable supernatural forces of evil, that can surely only benefit from an R rating?

Getting all sentimental

Now I’ve seen two good movies this summer, Julie and Julia and The Transient

Ghost Clown

Hey check out this spooky video! It is about a ghost clown.

Right now I’m on senior staff for a student produced magazine-style news/variety show for the local PBS station. Law school keeps me from getting into too many major projects, but I am able to crank out a few little absurd non-sequitur videos for alt.news here and there.

With our first episode of the year airing this weekend, Halloween next week, and this site a barren wasteland devoid of posted content, I figured it was as good an interesting thing as any to start out with.

Let me know what you think!
